Dignity Drive

Mission Statement

Rotary Dignity Drive Logo

The four Rotary Clubs of Grande Prairie have teamed up to collect new underwear and socks for those in need in our community.

Underwear and socks are the most needed staple clothing but are the least donated items to centres that shelter and serve unhoused and street-involved individuals.

Our campaign typically runs in the month pf October. Please stop by one of our many drop-off locations throughout to donate. Keep an eye out for the annual Grande Prairie Storm Tighty-Whitey Toss game!

Get involved

Please let us know if your organization could benefit from our drive, or if your business would like to be a drop-off location! We are also accepting sponsors for our website and print materials.

If you have a large donation that won’t fit in the bins, feel free to reach out to arrange a pick up through dignitydrivegp@gmail.com.

A Need for Basic Essentials

For street-engaged individuals, access to clean underwear and socks is essential to one’s health. Opportunities to regularly launder these items may not come often and, over time, their quality diminishes. This can pose health risks, offering little protection to the body and affecting one’s mental health.

Underwear and socks are the most needed staple clothing but are the least donated items to centers that provide shelter and unhoused services. By hosting a specific drive for these items, this fact could change.

Providing Comfort, Health, and Hygiene

The Rotary Clubs of Grande Prairie have teamed up to collect new underwear and socks for unhoused and street-involved people and others who would benefit from these items. The Clubs work together with selected drop-off locations to collect donations for one month, typically in October.

In addition to socks and underwear, the Dignity Drive also accepts:

  • Mitts and toques
  • Sweaters and shirts
  • Toiletries

and more!

The Impact

Dignity Drive is timed for late fall to ensure that local shelters and not-for-profits can receive all donation items before the coldest months begin. By working with multiple organizations, Dignity Drive ensures higher access to these items throughout Grande Prairie for the unhoused population.

How can you support

Donate

Items can be dropped off over a month-long period at several locations, making it easy to schedule a stop at a drop-off near you!

We also encourage you to donate directly to the not-for-profits and shelters we have partnered with.

Tighty Whitey Toss

Another way to donate! Fans of the Grande Prairie Storm team are urged to bring donations of new packages of underwear or socks, throwing them on the ice after the Storm scores their first goal of a pre-determined game. Follow our Facebook page to see at which game the toss is taking place.
