We increase access to menstrual health and education by developing global partnerships, cultivating Social Enterprises, mobilizing volunteers and innovating sustainable solutions that shatter stigma and limitations for women and girls.
Since almost 100% of vulnerable girls between 10 and 18 years old, living in poverty in the rural batey villages, have no access to feminine hygiene, it soon became clear that these girls are in great need of Days For Girls education and kits. These girls are at risk of sexual abuse, in danger of child trafficking, exposed to a “teen pregnancy epidemic” and isolated due to cultural taboos related to menstruation.
Our goal is to provide menstrual health education and DFG kits to the most vulnerable 250,000 girls in the Dominican Republic. One Days For Girls kit can be used for 3+ years, enabling the girls to attend school and live their lives during their menstruation period.
We also offer “Men who Know” education for men and boys to help break down stigma around menstruation.
With financial assistance from Rotary and our our partners, Proinfancia, produces the feminine hygiene kits in-country in their sewing centers, facilitating jobs for women who produce the kits.
Cost-effective, safe, sustainable and contextually relevant products help women and girls manage their periods and remain in school and engage in livelihood activities.
Access to timely, factual information about puberty and menstruation can lead to increased body literacy, a healthy public perception of menstruation and decreased stigma and shame.
